Exclusion for Contagious Diseases
PLEASE KEEP CHILDREN HOME IF THEY HAVE ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS!If your child develops any of the following diseases, please notify the school so that other children can be kept under observation. For illnesses not listed, please call the school for regulations. These periods of exclusion are in accordance with the laws of New Jersey. Any child who has been ill with any of these diseases must have a doctor’s certificate before he/she returns to school. Exclusion of household contacts of these diseases is no longer required.
1. MEASLES(Rubeola) – 4 days after appearance of rash.
2.GERMAN MEASLES (Rubella) – 4 days after rash appears.
3.CHICKENPOX (Varicella) - 6 days after last pox erupts. Scabs and crusts need not have fallen off for child to return to school.
4.MUMPS – 9 days after swelling appears.
5.PERTUSSIS (WHOOPING COUGH) – Until 3 weeks after onset of typical cough. Contact with children who have not had DPT shots should be avoided.
7.CONJUNCTIVITUS (PINK EYE) – Contagious first 24 to 72 hours and until discharge has ceased.
In order to prevent the spread of contagious disease and to ensure rapid recovery with a minimum of after effects, parents should keep children at home if they have any of the following symptoms:
Vomiting Chills Fever ----Child can return to school when they are FEVER FREE and NO VOMITING FOR 24 HOURS!!!!
Runny Nose Enlarged Glands Earache
Sore Throat Stomach Pains Headache
Coughing Red Eyes Diarrhea
Skin Eruptions Runny Eyes Impetigo
If any of these symptoms are found in a child in school, parents/guardians will be notified, and the child will need to be picked up from school. This is done to protect the health of the whole school, as well as that of the student.
