Here are some important things you will need for the first day of school

    • a backpack without wheels- they fit best in our storage area- it also needs to be big enough to fit a 9x12 folder which the school will provide
    • Your child needs to wear a mask in the classroom. This is a requirement of the school unless your child has a medical exemption, this would come from the school nurse. You would need to get in touch with her about this.
    • Extra masks in your child's backpack- just in case the one you send in with your child gets dirty, lost, the ear loops get accidentally cut etc.- things like this happen despite our best efforts
    • Extra clothes in a plastic bag that will be kept in your child's backpack all year- This is not only in case of a bathroom accident. As I mentioned, things happen in kindergarten! I have seen so many things happen in kindergarten over the years. Water gets spilled on clothes from a water bottle, water from hand washing can get all over clothes and yes, sometimes, despite our best efforts, clothing gets cut. I want your child to be comfortable in the classroom. This sometimes means putting on a fresh shirt, pants or socks from their backpack. (Don't forget underwear too!)
    • Water bottle for your child to use during the day. We are not allowed to use the water fountains in the classroom or hallways. Please have your child's name on it!
    • One very important DAILY routine will be my requirement to look for the health screening that your child must bring to school everyday. You will be required to complete a health screening at home each morning and return a form to school indicating that your child is healthy and fever-free. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THIS IMPORTANT FORM. If your child does not have the form completed upon their arrival to school, they could be excluded from the classroom until the nurse is able to contact you and verify your child's wellness. If your child is exhibiting signs of ANY illness, please keep them home out of an abundance of caution. Attendance policies will be more flexible this year to encourage our families to be as prudent as possible in keeping their children home if they are not feeling well.
    • Kindergarten Supplies- I have a separate page with a list of supplies to send into the classroom. Send in the supplies a few at a time over the first week of school in your child's backpack. If you could start by sending in the crayons and scissors, that would be great! From time to time, I may ask for a few other items. Due to how unique this school year is, it will be an evolving process. We are not allowed to share items in the classroom so we are all looking to be flexible in all things! I may ask for donations as the year goes on and we use the supplies. If you ordered the supplies through the PTO, the supplies are being send directly to the classroom and will be there for your child on the first day of school.
    • This will be an unprecedented school year. Please know that I look forward to getting to know you and your child. I want them to feel safe and comfortable in school. This may not happen right away but please know that I am here for you and your child. Feel free to contact me via email anytime. ltaylor@swsdk6.com
