The students in 1st grade and 2nd grade all attend the Governor Charles C. Stratton School.

The United States of America Flag
Students in 1st and 2nd grade will learn language arts, mathematics, social studies/world cultures and science.  They will also have physical education/health, recess, music, art, library, student conduct, life skills, and technology class.
Students who need additional help in the areas of language arts and math may also qualify for our ACES program (Academic Coaches Enhancing Skills).  The students will meet with the ACES teacher at different times during the week.  Students are given extra help with math skills, phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, reading fluency and vocabulary.  Students will also strengthen their inferential, critical thinking, and reasoning skills.

Besides our school curriculum, the students learn about character education.  Showing good manners, respect, and responsibility are taught every day in our school.

Throughout the school year, the 1st grade, 2nd grade students attend special events such as: The Fall Festival Parade, PTO Assemblies, Fun Day, Arbor Day Activity (planting a tree), End of the Year programs and other special activities.  The 1st and 2nd grade students will have an Art Show, Music Concert, and Field Trip.  They will also participate in the Jump Rope for Heart program.

Our parent involvement in our school is incredible!  The parent involvement and support helps make our school activities very enjoyable for our students.

Another part of our curriculum is our STAR Assessment Program. The students in the Swedesboro-Woolwich School District will take this test on a computer at various times throughout the school year. This formative assessment provides beneficial information to the teachers and parents including the child’s instructional level, areas of strength and concern, and how the child is progressing.  Teachers benefit from this information by using the results to help differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of every child in the classroom.  In addition, this assessment provides a wealth of data to the district which creates a thorough standard for evaluating learning resources and Curricular Programs that will best suit the needs of our students.
Lastly, we are initiating a new enrichment program called "Comet Time"! This program will take place during the last period of each school day. All Stratton students and staff members will utilize this time to work together to enhance skills, enrich interests, and develop an appreciation for numerous topics. The goal of "Comet Time" is to ultimately encourage a love of life-long learning.
