Week of 10/17/20222

During the week of 10/11/2022, we continued working on transitioning from one work station to the next.  Additionally, our classroom was introduced to a "sensory wall".  We completed an experiment using baking soda and vinegar to "melt ghosts".  All of the students were excited to participate in this activity, using eye droppers to increase their fine motor skills.  They appeared to enjoy the "cause and effect" of the experiment.  There was a lot of laughter.

Storytime is a work in progress.  We do have some favorites.  Motivating them for more participation is my goal.  The favorites include:  We're Going on a Lion Hunt; We're Going on a Bear Hunt; Pete the Cat and his White Shoes; Pete the Cat Rockin' in My School Shoes; Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons.  The students are very focused during these stories.

Building independence with task boxes will be a focus during the following weeks.  Work stations will also continue to focus on building their math, language and reading skills.  We will be introducing a "Sensory Walk" as part of their schedule this week to see how they respond.  The focus will be on some movements that include:  dancing, jumping, hopping, spinning around, pushing, pulling, self-hugging, within an obstacle course, using visual pictures to guide their participation.  Our occupational therapist, Miss Stephanie, has been gathering materials to introduce these skills with our students.  Our goal is always to increase the students focus and attention.

The last two weeks, we introduced some beanbag games and exchanged the words to "pumpkin" instead of a "beanbag".  So you may hear about "passing a pumpkin around".  It's a game we've been playing at the end of the day.  They appear to like it by observing their smiles and level of participation.  We will continue creating fine motor crafts.

This upcoming week is the Boosterthon.  Our class is scheduled to go outside on Friday afternoon 10/21.  If you did not purchase t-shirts for the day, please have your child wear a forest green color.  As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.  Let's have a great week!
