April is Abilities Awareness Month!

Swedesboro-Woolwich School District will be celebrating Abilities Awareness Month, in the spirit of viewing others for their abilities, not their disabilities! Each grade level will be assigned a disability to learn more about. The teachers will facilitate a short lesson with a related activity and follow up with suggested reading and extension activities. Morning announcements in each building will also focus on promoting this important message.

Students will also be participating in a district-wide Abilities Awareness Theme that will be displayed in each of our schools. Stay tuned for details!

To support your child's learning, please see the article located at the following link: Building Compassion-How to Talk to Your Children About Disabilities  which focuses on the most appropriate ways to discuss the topic of disabilities with your child.  We encourage you to read the article and use the ideas as a springboard for a meaningful discussion at home.

Please feel free to check out our supplemental reading list on the district website, under the "SEPAC" tab or Click here: SEPAC  .  Our goal is to promote an understanding and acceptance of differences while emphasizing that ALL children have abilities.
